The Future of XMBG...
http://forums.xmbforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=764415
This thread at the main xmb site is precisely the exact reason I was reluctant to update hacks for 1.9.8 because this was in the wind right after the
release of 1.9.8. So suffice it to say, XMBG will not be following these new releases of 1.9.9. Also, the scuttlebutt is that for XMB 2.0 they plan to
go in a social networking type of direction. This will be the breaking point for me. I don't like those sites, they're more trouble than they're
worth (legally and personally) and I see nothing but a whole lot more support issues that I personally don't care to deal with. So with that said
XMBG, for the time being, will stay on course with 1.9.8, 1.9.5 SP1 and support for these 2 versions along with 1.9.6 Alpha/SP1. I will, as my time
allows, continue to update hacks for 1.9.8. I do apologize for not having more hacks available for 1.9.8. But due to life and having to work a job 7
days a week pretty much kills my motivation for updating hacks. But I will continue to update them a few here and there when I can.
Now for the good news. Several months back when the talk of 1.9.9 came about and the news about 2.0 going in a social networking direction Guldan and
I discussed this and we decided to go ahead with a plan we've talked about over the past few years. That plan is to develop our own xmb derivative -
XMB Optimized. We feel this is best since we really don't want, and have no, viable connection to the main xmb site. With all the changes that were
supposed to come about when iEntry took xmb over and never came about we realized that this is not a group we'd like to be in league with. Under the
old management the old xmb hacks site was abandoned with only myself and a few of my former staff members manning the ship over there to keep it from
sinking. Then when xmb decided to revive xmbhacks it was offered to link their database with my database to keep them up-to-date with hacks. Were they
gracious or thankful for the offer? Hell no! I pretty much got kicked in the ass for it. That was almost 2 years ago and from that moment I pretty
much have washed my hands of them.
So Guldan and I feel that it is best that we go in our own direction. I know many of you are familiar with John Briggs' Ultra XMB project. XMB
Optimized is in no way in competition with this endeavor. In fact, we embrace it in the sense it will give the xmb community diversity in the software
they choose to use. XMB Optimized will also be totally different than what Ultra XMB is offering in the way of what the software will feature as
standard features and available installable hacks. Which this area is going to be vastly overhauled. Can't go into too much detail about this. But it
will be something the end users will absolutely love.
XMB Optimized will be primarily based off of 1.9.5 SP1 that was developed by John Briggs and Guldan has already started on the recoding of the files.
In a couple of months or so when we are further along in the project I will open up a forum for its discussion and input from the community. So please
stay tuned and thanks to you all for being faithful patrons of XMB Garage.
