I'm a completely self taught PHP programmer, and for me one of the biggest helps was a book actually.
Visual Quickpro Guide: PHP and MySQL for Dynamic
Websites
Using that, and looking through code samples (mostly the XMB core code), was the biggest way I learned PHP.
I realize you might not have had much success with php.net either, but as a now experienced programmer, it's the only reference I really use anymore.
The function references can be invaluable as far as understanding what a function does and how it works.
Some other sites I'd recommend as far as PHP tutorials would be:
Now as far as learning MySQL, I found it's a rather simple language, having only a handful of keywords/commands, and several functions. The book I
mentioned above was a big help in learning it, but if you're not able to get it, you might try spoono.com as well, as they have some PHP and MySQL
tutorials as well.
Hope that's enough to get you started
If you do have any questions about the basics, I can help you, if you want to post them here, or U2U me. I'm a bit busy right now, so I'll try to
respond as quickly as I can, but I may be delayed now and then.
