Update on the next XMB Release
Hey guys,
I noticed the news here is a little outdated, so I thought I'd give you guys an update, for those who aren't up to speed on recent XMB events.
iEntry have really stepped up lately and have made some tough choices for the better of XMB and it's community. Aventure Media is no longer a part of
The XMB Group, and will have no further input on the development and management of XMB. Tularis has also left the team, as he is no longer interested
in XMB development, and is moving on to concentrate on his career. iEntry brought John on as Project Manager to help get the ball rolling on XMB
again.
A lot is in the works over at XMB now. The XMB Group has been structured into teams, and managers for these teams have been elected by The XMB Group.
We are now pushing a lot forward to further XMB's growth in the future. The XMB Group is in the progress of devising a charter to guide the project
and maintain a democratic process.
We're still looking for more help in The XMB Group, so if you're interested please drop in at http://www.xmbforum.com and let us know! We're recruiting for all
teams: Development, Support, Translation, Graphics, Documentation, and more.
As for development of XMB itself, it's been decided to discontinue 1.9.7 Nexus. The reason for this is that 1.9.7 is too unstable and has not been
tested enough. With this in mind, The XMB Group is developing XMB 1.9.8 Engage, based on John's 1.9.5 Service Pack. There will only be a couple new
features in 1.9.8, including a CAPTCHA system to deter bots, mass moderation tools, and an update to Today's Posts to allow viewing of thread
activity for any number of days. The bulk of 1.9.8's development will be security and bug fixes, and a lot of progress has been made in this effort
to secure and stabilize XMB. XMB 1.9.8 Engage is not yet available, but it is coming very, very soon.
Once XMB 1.9.8 is released, The XMB Group will be focusing development efforts on XMB 2.0. We're really excited to get a stable release to the
community and push forward with a brand new version of XMB. Rest assured that XMB 1.9.8 will be continued to be supported throughout XMB 2.0's
development, and any future bugs and security vulnerabilities will be addressed with Service Packs to XMB 1.9.8.
Hopefully this brings everyone up to speed.
