I’m afraid I am some what stuck on a new install of 1.9.8 and would greatly appreciate some assistance.
It’s a clean install, I downloaded the latest version of XMB_198_Final_SP2 from XMB Garage, loaded it up and logged in with the SA Account. Every
thing looked good with no errors. Then I logged out and tried to register another account {“on different computer and connection”}, and noticed that
the CAPTCHA images were not showing.
Do you know what version of php your server is running? And does the server have GD Libraries installed. You will need to inquire of these things from
your host. Your php version should be higher than 4.0.7 and you especially need GD Libs for captcha to work.
PLEASE DO NOT U2U ME FOR GENERAL SUPPORT ISSUES!!!

Sorry I must have missed that link, but I did need to see it on the one that's not working as you've indicated you have two servers, and one is
working the other is not.
Looking at the documentation for the function in question: http://www.php.net/imageftbbox
apparently the function isn't well documented, but it requires PHP to be compiled with freetype support. Looking at your phpinfo, you do have GD, but
no freetype support. You'll need to recompile PHP with the --with-freetype-dir=[DIR] flag to enable that functionality.
I've found PHP to be far easier to work with than Perl, myself. If you know Perl well you should pick up PHP pretty quickly. There is the slight
drawback of being on a *nix system that PHP has to be recompiled every time a new module is needed, but that's the way it works. Even with that
problem, *nix servers work better than Windows servers usually, though it's far easier to add a module in Windows since it's already compiled.
I am a retired programer and started out with Fortran an the orig C...COBOL..lol. The biggest problem I see with PHP is it is so similar I keep
injecting perlisms into it, and that isn't working well

Yeah there are some similarities, that's for sure. If I remember my PHP history correctly, the guy who first created it based some of the syntax on
Perl, and it does use the PCRE library for it's regular expressions. I may give learning Perl another shot some day, but I've yet to find anything I
couldn't do with PHP that I could do with another language, at least for web based stuff.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Cascading events are plagueing us right now. Lost one of the server hardrives the data center seems to be
having issues.
The mental picture I get when I talk to the data center reminds me of the old samsonite luggage commercail with the apes.
So I'm still on hold while they conduct the 3rd attempt at rebuild, maybe they will get it right this time, but I don't have much hope...think its
time to colocate this server somewhere else.
