XMB Suggestion - Packet

Hi,

I'd like to make a suggestion after a member has to install the hacks by himself.

First of all I'd just want to say, that I switched from phpbb to xmb because it's easier to handle and much more comfortable.
So when I saw that there's a complete package available at http://www.phpbb2.de , it came to my mind if something comparable for the XMB.

Would it be possible if you offer a package with already installed hacks and the hacks for themselves to be installed as somebody wants?

You see, different people want different hacks. That's the main problem with your suggestion. The other problem, is that if you want to implement something like that, you need to redo the installation script.

That's not really a good idea because not everyone wants the same hacks on their boards. Besides it would pretty much put me out of business pretty much the way going paid has slowed this site down to nothing more than a slow crawl. When hack installations were free we were like an interstate highway and working our asses off for nothing. Going paid, well I've seen molasses move faster in the middle of winter. I've thought about changing my system to make it where people could pick and choose the hacks they wanted installed in a bundle but that won't work either because people just don't want to pay. So your idea wouldn't work either.

And maluta has a valid point, too, about the installation script.

That's right but you have to see it from the point of view that there might be some, like you wrote, who want different hacks than offered in this"package".

Those people might use the request list to perform their board.

And the others can use the already improved forum with installed hacks.
But here you have to choose what hacks need to be installed. I don't guess that everybody needs a shop or gallery -system...
For me it seems that the "core"-hacks should be installed so that also the other people, who want some more individuality for their xmb have to possiblity to add some hacks.

When you request an installation, you will see a form that will take you to payment. You will need to pay via PayPal.

The majority of the people that come here already have their board installed. So the way I see it very few people would use a pre-hacked board. And what are 'core' hacks? What you may see as 'core' hacks may not be to somebody else. This, in my opinion, is just not a very good idea. Most people like to pick and choose the hacks they want on their boards.

Yes, paypal is the preferred method of payment. When you place an installation request you are taken to paypal to complete the request process.

if you modified the hacks a tad to enable them to be turned on/off in the admin cp it could work out :|

core hacks are like members viewing thread, quick reply.. etc etc.

As I said, what you may think is a core hack I may not think it to be a core hack. A lot of the hacks do come with an on/off admin switch like the users viewing page hack. And quick reply is already a 'core' hack with on/off switch. If I were to do something like this I'd rather modify my request system so people could pick and choose what hacks they wanted all in one bundle.

Examples I just discovered might be: Advanced Spam Control, Avatar Upload, Avatar Gallery, Useres Viewing Page, Quick Reply etc.

The hacks I am thinking of are those who make board-"life easier" for the forummembers.

I spek to jim on this, basicaly we are considering the service but not for free. it will be a paid service only and it's simple for me to do with a set list of mods install script and all. I will speak to Jim more on it and plot a system of how we want to intro this and fees though. It's not worth it otherwise and if I spend time making packages per request by a custome then a fee will come into play.
