XMBG Has Reopened!

XMBG has reopened and for the time being everything is free again with the exception of board installations, upgrades and transfers. However, this is only temporary as I am in the process of converting the site to subscription based. At that time if you don't subscribe you don't get access. And once a subscriber everything will still be free. For the time being I will still support 1.9.3 and 1.9.5. But once subscriptions are in placed then I will only support 1.9.5 and there will be no more general support. Support will be for subscribers only.

That's great Jim, but please don't stress yourself out too much with this...and I'll be here, although it kind of sucks too...I don't want to upgrade *whines* lol I hate upgrading it sucks, but I'll get it eventually, yea sometime, lol so yes just remember you and yours come first before this site

I'm looking at $10 a month which will include one hack requests (up to 3 hacks) per day, more personalized support with not having to deal with the masses, support for your own diy hack installations, unlimited downloads, access to XMBG exclusive hacks when we get them updated or developed. However, they will probably be for installation only. I'm also thinking about making the shop handle addition hack requests where members can buy an extra installation request over the daily limit with their xmbg bucks. Also think of using the lottery but not sure where to go with it just yet. I've got a couple of other ideas for down the road. But I am open to suggestions. So if the members have any I'd like to hear them.

Well from my point of view $10 is very, very reasonable. Let's say you make 1 request a day - 3 hacks per request - an average cost of $7 per request would come to $210.00 based on 30 days a month. Plus at that rate I'd say the average time spent would be around 15 hours to install 90 hacks. And a lot of places also charge a per hour rate to install software. So say a minimum of $10 an hour there's another $150. So we're looking at a potential total of up to $360 for $10, I must be freakin' nuts! :smash:

So I see $10 as very reasonable. $10 is good for a month. If you don't renew the next month that's up to you. Your subscription will start again when you renew it. You say, "90 hacks! Man that's alot!" Yeah it is but I can tell you that this site has well over 100 hacks and modifications. Plus you don't have to have them all installed in one month either. Plus as a subscriber you'll have access to the content of the site because once the subscriptions are in place then the site becomes 'Private' and only available to subscribers. And, as I've said, I'll be able to provide the same level of support that I have always provided here with more of a personal touch since we won't be dealing with the masses and the clutter that we know that can come with it. I'm not saying General Public support is bad. I'm just saying that it's something that I no longer want to deal with.

Also, here at XMBG for the first year I tried not to deal with General Support because the site is an Installation site and I only wanted to deal with support for our hack installations. And last June that changed and I've regretted it ever since.

If you mean XMBG-Host, not at the moment. I've temporarily suspended that service until I can figure out a way to keep people from signing up multiple accounts. It's a little annoying when they register for one and break it then signup for another one instead of seeking help to get the first one fixed. Had one person at one time had 4 accounts. I don't mind offering something like that but I also don't have to put up with abuse of the service either.

However, I do offer domain hosting for a very low price. If interested feel free to send me a u2u to discuss it.

Trust me for the paid hosting..Jim is very reasonable and I have been with him for months and I cannot recal any downtime at all. Unlike my old hosting service that boasted a 99.9% uptime and daily backups. Well server went down for over 2 months and backup they had was old....

Hi Niki,

I've wondered where you've been. There won't be much different when subscriptions are in place. It'll basically be a monthly subscription to access the site and make use of my services. But seriously I doubt there will be many who use it. People overall just don't want to pay and expect all that we (xmbg, xmbmods, xmbservices, etc.) do to be free. I watched the paid installations dwindle away from when I first implemented it last September. And I don't mean gradually either. It was dropping anywhere from 50% to 75% every month with this month (before going back to free) being close to 100%. And I'm saying that September brought in around $600 with requests and donations down to the first half of this month with 4 requests equaling $25 and 1 $10 donation.

And surprisingly enough since requests have been free again there's only been about 4 users taking advantage of it. So it looks like even free requests no longer have the appeal like it did before September. So, who knows?

That is a surprise. I'm actually waiting for the subscriptions, then at least you can get something for it...eh I think that made sense? I should go on and ask for an upgrade since my site is slow right now. I'll think about it and see how it pans out in the next few hours if it's still dead I'll do it while it's dead, lol Upgrades are what 5 or 10?

Hmm well it looks like not today, stupid host has been down for almost two hours now. So I'll wait.
