FAQ: Registration Problem - Reserved Name

A support question we've been getting a lot of here lately is someone will report that their board is not allowing some people to register, complaining that the username being entered is a "Reserved Name". Well this FAQ has a simple answer. Make sure the user is not using a space in their name. Spaces are not allowed in XMB usernames, and have not been allowed since XMB 1.8.

Now I know there are some of you out there saying, "But Gul'dan, you can have a space in your username if you rename your account through the Admin Panel!". This is true, but it is a bug in admin.user.inc.php. This has been reported to XMB, but I am not sure if the downloads have been updated yet.

We recommend you install this fix to your board for security reasons. Spaces can cause problems with your board or other hacks sometimes. If you haven't modified your admin.user.inc.php, you can just upload the attached file in this thread and you'll be good to go. If you have, then just find the following line of code in admin.user.inc.php:

ok i did what you told me to do. and i tried to change the username.. then i get this:

MySQL has encountered an unknown error. To find out the exact problem, please set the DEBUG flag to true in header.php.

so i make it true and i get this:

Try to change the username with DEBUG on. It will show you the SQL error. Post it here, so we can give you more help on it.

i turned debug to true.. isnt that on? when i did that i got this
